You know what (71 years old here)

I have a suggestion. Try it just a few times in a row but WITHOUT the pushup. That's it. Do NOT try more than 3, or just do 1.

Just do it after you've warmed up a LOT. After a week, try 2 in a row, then 3, then 4.

Stick with 4 for a month, then try ONE with a pushup. Stick with that for a month, etc.

Build up to it and keep it fun. Dance a bit before and after. You might one day find yourself looking forward to burpees as the highlight of your day. I like to combine them with Sun Salutations (also kind of improvisatory, etc).

I find exercise is the best when you play around with it, improvise and for the most part, ONLY do what you love!
