To the best of my knowledge, Resperate - which charges close to $300 to get a device to help you monitor your breathing, has not done any comparison studies showing their device is better than doing it on your own (it IS better than relaxation, which seems to be the focus of most of their studies, but that doesn't tell you anything about doing it on your own)

So, the FDA approved their device for lowering blood pressure - if you want to try it, just lie down in a comfortable position - put on your favorite classical music if you like:>)) - and gradually (VERY gently) slow your breathing down to the point your inhale/exhale cycles are about 10 to 12 seconds each (that's between 5 and 6 times per minute, considered the ideal rate - if you can do it slower that is even better but generally for beginners, about 8 seconds is a good starting point - 4 seconds in, 4 seconds out - and then gradually slow it down.

The minimum recommendation is 15 minutes at a time 4x a week. If you add this to your pre-sleep routine, it may have the benefit BOTH of lowering your blood pressure and improving your sleep - which will help with weight loss as well as blood pressure.

Win-win, eh? If you want to find some relaxing music, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02Le7wtKPMw&t=52s (you may find watching the video to be especially relaxing if you have difficulty focusing your mind)
