Thanks Andy. Yes, thinking about it - but for now I'm working on a process that would help people transition from waking into dreaming with full awareness (that is, directly into lucid dreams)

The crucial piece I'm missing is how to teach people to shift consciously into Stage 1 sleep. I'm sure you know this experientially - there's a very definable point when going into deep relaxation where you can feel a shift into a trance like state.

if you remain conscious, you'll literally see vivid 3D images and hear people talking in a dream like way.

I have found I can teach most people (and have done it myself) quite easily to get to this point - but then one either falls into unconscious sleep or shifts into a typical non lucid dream.

My guess is through a combination of drone-like music and breathing, this might be overcome. Yoga nidra practices like 61 points and similar things, along with the appropriate music (and possibly psychedlic or other hypnotic type animated/video images at the beginning, while still sitting up) could do the trick.

I think knowing for each individual how breathing can help that shift into conscious Stage 1 sleep could be one of the important keys.

If you play with this at all, let me know. There are dream labs all over the world with incredibly complex, super expensive technology but nobody has solved it. My guess is some simple combination of breathing, imagery and deep effortless mindfulness (and maybe music and video also) is the key - something ultimately available for free for everybody.

If anyone figures this out, it will have ASTONISHING repercussions for all aspects of physical and psychological health, for supercharging artistic, relationship, work and athletic skills, and most important, I think, profoundly deepening the meaningfulness of all life.
