Paul, can you tell me what the word "physical" means, and if there is any scientific evidence - direct evidence - for the existence of something purely physical?

Stoljar, who you mention, who wrote the online Stanford article on physicalism, has an opening section on the "definition" of physicalism but never actually defines it. At best people say "it's what physicists study," but what physicists study is an abstraction, measurements representing the behavior of observable phenomena.

What does "physical" mean, and what possible scientific experiment could ever be conducted showing even minimal evidence that something wholly mind independent existence?
