Do you know the first thing you do is a literature review? It can be many dozens of pages, citing at least 50 experts. now, according to your standards, when I do a literature review, if I just cite these authoritative sources, that is cheap and manipulative.
So instead of dozens of pages, I would end up writing a 1000+ page literature review, presenting my arguments for or against each point raised by experts who have themselves spent decades - EACH ONE - investigating their particular area of study.
Well, unless Dr. Dectis has specific credentials involving reviews of thousands of studies and heading up the #1 department of nutrition in the world, I think if I ever conduct a study of the psychology underlying the religion of lo-carb, I'll probably stick to citing experts in my literature review.
