I'm always delighted when my initial assumptions, biases, etc are proven wrong. Your comment is wonderfully dialogic. I don't want to get into a long thing right now, but if you have any links to other writings, I'd be curious to see if you have encountered any nondualist writings you find legitimate. There are Tantric, Zen, Dzogchen and even Christian and Western philosophers (see Greg Goode who have a much more subtle presentation of non duality than Tolle and some of the "pop" nondual folks who do indeed often present a quite simplistic glib view of nonduality.
