I'd like to second a point CJ James made:
Ferris was i his 20s and 30s when he started making these recommendations.
When I was 30, if I had realized I had gained 5 pounds, I wouldn't need to change my diet at all. I'd just run a few miles 3 or 4 times a week, and by the end of the week, it was off.
Fast forward to 65, I could do 10 minutes of super intense HIIT, run 10 miles, 3 times a week, eat >20gms carbs daily- intense keto, and not lose a pound.
Everyone's different.
I lost 30 pounds in 3 months simply by eating 1500 calories (on a whole foods diet; yes, I included whole grains and legumes, and for animal foods, fish, dairy and eggs). But that's just me.
I wanted to lose another 10 pounds in the 19 years since, and nothing - keto or anything else - made a difference.
6 months ago I tried 2 meals a day no snacks (I had done 16/8 IF for several years but it made no difference). That did it. I hastened it by alternating 2 meals a day with one meal a day.
Lost the 10 pounds and kept it off since.
Whatever works for you!
