I hope some people who read this article - which begins with a focus on Dr. Dvid Ludwig - will go over to his website and see his recommendations.
he says for SOME people an extremely low carb (20 grams a day or less) diet will work. For most people, he recommends approximately 2 weeks at that level then on to moderate carb.
note also that he STRONGLY recommends foods generally demonized by the keto folks - high quality complex carbohydrates like starchy vegetables, whole grains and legumes.
And before you tell me why "I" am wrong, please tell me - citing methodology, statistics and appropriate references - precisely why Dr. Ludwig is wrong.
I'm personally not taking sides. If very low carb works for you, great. If eliminating starchy vegetables, most fruits except berries, all legumes and all grains works for you, great.
If eating , eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, legumes, dairy such as yogurt, kefir and cottage cheese, whole grains, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables works for you, great.
As far as my personal experience, I lost 30 pounds in 3 months 19 years ago without paying any attention to macronutrients except to eat less junk/processed foods (didn't eliminate them). Just rather randomly chose 1500 calories. Went from nearly obese to within normal weight limits.
I wanted to lose 15 pounds more. Tried strict keto (no starchy veggies, only berries, no legumes or grains, added a lot of chicken to the eggs, fish, dairy (including cheese), nuts and seeds. Intense workouts including HIIT, 1 hour daily, 6 mornings a week - lost 1 pound in 2 months of very strict adherence.
What worked for me? No snacks. 2 meals a day. 12 pounds in 1 month. Kept it off. May not work for you Do whatever you want, whatever works, but please don't cite Dr. Ludwig to support keto only when he quite clearly does not.
