I disagree!

(ok, pause to take in the playful intention of that remark)

I'm a bit older than you Robert, and I remember a time when there was a stunning national (US) AND cross party agreement on a remarkable number of things (to name just one, the official position of SOUTHERN BAPTISTS - yes, pause to take THAT in - was that abortion was perfectly fine up until the day before birth). Republicans had pretty much conceded that that most of the New Deal was here to stay.

I believe a concerted effort by the ultra rich has basically created the illusion of mass polarization. More than one person has observed that, though it is rarely spoken out loud, Trump ran on an abashedly left-wing economic platform, which of course is why he won.

Now, I'm sure lots of folks will write in to disagree, and I agree with all of them.
