Actually, in the last 5 years or so, evidence has been accumulating that 20 minutes of well practiced, deep yoga nidra is as restorative and 1 hour of deep stage 3 sleep.
And there is definitely evidence of even more striking findings - if there is a predominance of delta waves in yoga nidra but still some fundamental awareness, it may not only be as good but BETTER than stage 3 sleep!
